Products and Ingredients
Cosmetic products and their ingredients are safe for consumers to use thanks to the industry’s dedication to safety and European Union (EU) Cosmetics Directive’s requirement that cosmetics cause no damage to human health.
The Directive lays down rules for product and ingredient safety assessment and in-market control.
Its annexes include lists of substances that must not be used owing to their toxicity, substances that can only be used in specified circumstances and the substances approved for use in cosmetics as colouring agents, preservatives and UV filters.
The cosmetics industry fully supports the safety objectives of the Cosmetics Directive and works to ensure that information about products and ingredients is available to consumers.
