Well-Being
Why do we have cosmetic products?
Cosmetics, toiletries and perfumes are an important part of all our lives. We use them every day—from deodorant, shampoo and shaving cream, to skin care products, perfumes and make up.
We consider personal hygiene and beauty products essential to our self-esteem. Some of the most innovative products also help to protect our health, for example, sunscreens and decay-fighting toothpaste.
The Look Good…Feel Better (LGFB) movement has shown the incredible difference that cosmetics can make to well-being. It is the cosmetics industry charity for women undergoing cancer treatment. Through specialist advice at make up workshops LGFB gives women the confidence to face the world.
Without innovation to improve and develop our cosmetics products, we would still be washing in water and unscented animal fat.
Knowing that virtually everyone uses cosmetics—including children, the elderly and those with sensitive skin—the cosmetics industry’s scientists are continually finding new ways to ensure that products are safe and consumers can trust them with confidence.
Innovation drives the quest to provide safe, new products for literally billions of people who use them every day.
Cosmetics and perfumes have been with us since long before the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Fashion and beliefs have changed over the millennia but the positive effect of cosmetics on our well-being has been recognised by different peoples through the ages.
